We’re Building A School!

We’re building a school!

We’re super excited to officially launch our school building project! We’ve been working hard in the background to secure a plot of land and plan the project, and are now charging full steam ahead.

The new school will be situated in the greater Accra region close to Accra, the capital of Ghana, and will hopefully be the first of many schools we build. We haven’t yet finalised the architecture plans but are aiming for a capacity of around 300 students and will build the school in three stages; ground floor, first floor and second floor. This allows the first 100 students to begin as early as January 2018 and we’re aiming to finish second floor construction by end of 2018/early 2019.

Why build a school?

We’re glad you asked! Currently we have 500 children on our education sponsorship waiting list, and this is for Accra alone. Building a school with 300 capacity and 50/50 split between paying and sponsored students allows us to significantly reduce our waiting list of 500.

But our project is about much more than reducing the waiting list. We want to create a financially self-sustaining school to allow for the 50% of underprivileged children to attend without fees. These children will also receive health insurance, school uniform and learning materials, meals, extra tuition, and more.We also want to contribute towards raising the standard of education in Ghana by creating a collaborative and forward thinking teaching method and environment, and to lead by example by banning corporal punishment – which is commonplace in Ghana.

We can’t do this alone!

This is our most ambitious project by a long way and we need a little help from our friends, donors, partners and supporters. Here’s three ways that you can help:

  1. Individuals can donate any amount to our project through our global giving page here, in a couple of clicks.
  2. For corporate donations or larger individual donations please contact Katerina, our Development & Marketing Director, at Katerina@tanfghana.org
  3. Another way to support our project is by sharing our story and updates on social media to help us reach more people.

That’s it for now! We’ll keep you updated through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. If you don’t already follow us, what are you waiting for!
